What is Your Time Worth?

5-step process reclaim time

What is your time worth?

Do you own your time?

As we progress in life, we strive to own more of our time.

As we progress in life, our value of time increases.

When I was learning real estate, I came across a section in a book titled “Value Your Time by Outsourcing MWA Activities.

Minimum Wage Activities?

Page from “Real Estate Rehab Investing Bible” by Paul Esajian

Though this is geared towards entrepreneurs, it can apply for anyone.

If you’re presented with two options:

Activity 1 → Potential Outcome: $1000

Activity 2 → Potential Outcome: $1

You’d obviously choose Activity 1.

In economics, there’s the term that exemplifies this: Opportunity Cost.

If my aspirational hourly rate is $1000/hour, anything below that threshold should be outsourced.

For 80% of my tasks, they follow this mental model below:

Eliminate → Optimize → Automate → Delegate/Outsource → Self-Managing

Eliminate

  • Can I get rid of it?

  • Can I ignore it (intentionally)?

Optimize

  • If I have to do it, then can I create better systems and processes?

  • 80/20 Rule: Is there an easier way of doing this?

Automate

  • If there’s a process, then it can be automated. Automate 80-100%.

  • Think: Automation tools, AI, and Checklists.

Delegate/Outsource

  • If it can’t be automated entirely, then delegate/outsource the remaining 20%

Self-Managing

  • If there’s a task outsourced, then can I assign someone else (Virtual Assistant) to create or manage all the automated and delegated/outsourced MWAs? Otherwise, you’ll have to do this manage this.

  • If this is recurring, create habit and routine for this task. These are the high-level tasks that make it up to you.

Some tasks can be automated entirely.

  • Eliminate → Optimize → Automate [100%]

Some tasks can be automated up to a certain limit, then it needs human oversight.

  • [Eliminate → Optimize → Automate] 80% →

  • [Delegate/Outsource → Self-Managing] 20%

Set and enforce an aspirational personal hourly rate.

If fixing a problem will save less than your hourly rate, ignore it.

If outsourcing a task will cost less than your hourly rate, outsource it.

Naval Ravikant

It’s no secret that this takes time.

Start simple, then scale.

Everything starts with planting seeds that grow into trees.

As you let go of menial tasks, the more time you free up for the important things in life.

More time, compounds into more time.

I hope this helps.

P.S. I am in-progress of finalizing an online community. It’ll be free for the first 250 people. Thereafter, it’ll have a monthly membership fee.

  • Accountability for goals

  • Monthly/weekly events and calls

  • Free content, courses, and other resources

  • Gamified way to earn rewards for active participants

  • DIY Coaching (prioritizing goals & lifestyle design)

This community is geared towards individuals that have a growth mindset and want to contribute and give value. Inactive free members will be removed after a month of no participation. Stay tuned!
